Q

what is a Gamete cell

A

general term for either a sperm or an ovum (egg) —-> once fused (sperm and ovum) it will be a zygote. ovum and sperm each only have 23 chromosomes. SEX CELLS.

17
Q

Somatic cell

A

human/body cells
23 pairs= 46 chromosomes
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION

18
Q

MITOSIS VS MEIOSIS

A

mitosis, is asexual reproduction - 46 chromosomes. single human body cell into two new identical cells (daughter cells) - indirect division-

meiosis, sexual reproduction, only has 23 chromosomes. gametes (ova and sperm) are needed to in order to create a new cell. Meiosis creates new organism with differentiated cells.

19
Q

Little Organs

A

Organelle

20
Q

Rough Er

A

Studded with ribosomes

21
Q

Lysosomes

A

digestive organelle that uses enzymes to break down substances found within the cell

22
Q

contains the cells genetic material

A

Chromosomes

23
Q

DNA (name for it)

A

Deoxyribonucleic acid

24
Q

Cell

A

basic unit of all living things

25
Q

Ribosomes (what do they produce?)

A

produces proteins

26
Q

Cell membrane

A

phospholipid bilayer and proteins
