the god of the fresh waters, wisdom, farming, and magic
Epic of Gilgamesh
the story of a hero. There is a king listed in the Sumerian King List called Gilgamesh.
Story of Atrahasis
The name Atrahasis means “exceedingly wise.”
Enuma Elish
A creation myth. Enuma Elish means “When on high.” Those are the first lines of this story.
Sumerian city-states
There were city-states in Mesopotamia for 1200 years before the city-states started to get conquered and combined into empires
Empires
A large territory in which several groups of people are ruled by a single leader or government
Mesopotamia
a geographical place; it is not a city-state, an empire, or a country. But, we can use the word Mesopotamia to talk about the location of any of these things.
Akkadian
The Akkadian Empire is the first empire in Mesopotamia.
Sargon and his people came from the north.
Capital: Agade or Akkad
Mediterranean Sea
a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean
His empire included sumer and went as far as the Mediterranean Sea.
