Meristematic Tissues Flashcards
Shoot Apical Meristem (SAM)
meristematic tissue (high area of cell devision) at top of plant’s main shoot and creates new leaves. creates mostly upward growth in the plant.
Root Apical Meristem (RAM)
meristematic tissue at bottom of main root (eudicots) and at end of all root tips. how roots grow longer.
Vascular Cambium
bidirectional meristematic tissue layer in shoots + stems of plants. grows between primary xylem + phloem and forms secondary xylem + phloem (xylem to inside, phloem to outside).
Cork Cambium
meristematic tissue in shoots + stems. forms cork to the outside of the cork cambium (outside of cortex, secondary phloem, etc.). cork = bark
Pericycle
meristematic tissue in roots, in between casperian strip + endodermis. lateral roots grow from here.
auxiliary/literal meristem(s)
meristematic tissue in shoots + stems. cells here devide to form bark.
