acute dystonic reaction
contraction of muscles in the head and neck area, usually medication induced or a stress reaction
also known as “tension myositis syndrome” and comes with other physical symptoms like fatigue, sleep issues, digestive issues, also anxiety and depression
akakthisia
motor restlessness, ranging from internal to physical
akinesia
lack of physical movement, extreme immobility
alexithymia
can’t identify emotions, unable to fatasize, constricted emotional life
anhedonia
unable to perceive or experience pleasure
athetoid
slow continual movements, automatic or purposeless.
e.g. rolling body from side to side, writhing hands/feet, curling/uncurling fingers
involuntary due to underlying neurological disorder
blocking
when someone stops talking before they reached their communication goal, intentionally or unintentionally, hindering effective comm.
e.g. changing topics, too much detail on irrelevant points
broca’s aphasia
- slow speech but makes sense
- understands words and able to nod
- repetition impaired
- writing often impaired
- lesion in posterior inferior frontal lobe
catalepsy
wax-like where client stays in any posture they’re placed for long periods. can happen with facial expressions too
seen in severely depressed or neuro damage, can signify catatonia
catatonia
2 of the following:
- motoric immobility
- motor activity thats excessive and purposeless
- verbal or physical tics
- strange posture and movement
catatonic excitement
agitated, purposeless motor activity uninfluenced by external stimuli
catatonic posturing
voluntarily taking weird posture
catatonic rigidity
voluntarily taking rigid posture held against all efforts to be moved
catatonic stupor
slowed motor activity to point of immobility and seeming unawareness of surroundings
choreiform
rapid, jerky, nonrepetitive movements in face, arms, and legs
caused by diseases or drug toxicity
