deviant- differed from social and cultural norms that can be considered unreasonable and inappropriate
distressing- unpleasant and upsetting experience to them or others surrounding them.
dysfunctional- inability to carry out daily life activities.

function above the norm despite the stress
Anxiety
is a state of psychological arousal associated with feelings of worry that something unpleasant is going to happen.
phobia
a persistent, intense, irrational fear of a specific object or event.
the fear is so intense the persons tries to avoid the stimulus at all costs
phobias can result in the feeling of anxiety.
informed consent
ensuring participants have a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in the research they
are partaking in, including potential harm or risks, and still willingly agree to participate.
placebo effect
This may involve participants experiencing improvements in their mental health purely because of their belief that they are receiving an effective and active treatment. With this in mind, a participant may experience improved mental health after receiving a placebo treatment which they believe to be a valid treatment. These improvements reflect the possible benefits the placebo effect can
have on mental health.
