-the music playing in blanches mind represents the loss of her stability as she drinks to attempt to escape her trauma and pass

-Stanley’s voice reminds her of her rape and so goes into a state of hysteria.

-dramatic delusional monologue expresses blanches lack of sanity.
-fantastical/hyperbolic
“The matron is a peculiarly sinister figure in her severe dress”
-sibilance if sinister, severe and dress portrays matron as sinister
-matron is the archetype for mental institutions that Williams had such bad experiences with and opinions of (his sister)
“That suggest a moth”
-simile of Blanche as moth suggests her fragility and possibly reference to her mental state
“I’m not sure I got all the soap out”
-metaphor for Blanche trying to wash away the act of rape but can’t get rid of the memory
