What are the emotional characteristics of depression?
Sadness, loss of interest, hopelessness, unworthy,lack of control etc
What are the behavioural characteristics of depression?
Reduced energy, tiredness, wringing hands, tearing skin or insomnia, aperture increase or decrease etc
What are the cognitive characteristics of depression?
Negative view of the world, negative self concept, irrational thoughts
What is obsessive compulsive disorder?
An anxiety disorder where anxiety arises from both obsessions and compulsions. The compulsions are a response to an obsession and the person believes the compulsions will reduce anxiety
What are the emotional characteristics of OCD?
Anxiety, distress, embarrassment, shame and disgust
What are the behavioural characteristics of OCD?
Obsessive actions that are repetitive and unconcealed
What are the cognitive characteristics of OCD?
Recurrent intrusive thoughts or impulses such as doubts,impulses and images and are uncontrollable creating anxiety
What is a phobia?
A group of mental disorders characterised by high levels of anxiety in response to a particular stimuli or group of stimuli. The anxiety interferes with normal living
What are the emotional characteristics of a phobia?
Excessive and unreasonable fear,anxiety and panic due to a specific thing
What are the behavioural characteristics of phobias?
Avoidance, freezing,fainting
What are the cognitive characteristics of phobias?
Resistance to rational arguments, realisation that their fear is unreasonable
What is depression?
A mood disorder where the individual feels sad and lacks interest in their usual activities and feels negative
