In the follicular phase, what does FSH stimulate, and what inhibits FSH production?
FSH stimulates ovarian follicle development and oestrogen production. Higher oestrogen and inhibin then lead to inhibited FSH production
What do declining FSH levels cause?
atresia of dominant follicle
What happens in ovulation?
there is an LH surge, and thend ominant follicle ruptures and releases oocyte
WHat occurs in luteal phase?
corpus luteum forms, progesterone is produced
What occurs in the proliferatice phase?
oestrogen induced growth of endometrial glands and stroma
What inhibits scar tissue formation during menstruation?
fibrinolysis
How long does menstrual loss usually last?
4-6 days
When does menstrual flow peak?
day 1-2
How much is normally released per menstruation?
