a monthly cycle where an egg is released ready for fertilisation
name the hormones involved in the menstrual cycle
LH, FHS, progesterone and oestrogen
role of FSH
FHS ( follicle stimulating hormone ) - released from the pituitary gland, stimulates ball of cells/ causes egg to mature, causes ovaries to release oestrogen
role of oestrogen
oestrogen - released from ovaries, stops FSH from being produced so that only one egg matures, repairs and thickens uterus lining, stimulates pituitary gland to release LH
role of LH
LH - released from the pituitary gland, releases egg from follicle, triggers ovulation
role of progesterone
progesterone - released from the ovaries, maintains uterus lining
