1 idiopathic
2 secondary causes such as allergic responses (especially to food), syphilis, hypothyroidism, trauma
these factors lead to disturbed homoestasis of endolymph (fluid within the inner ear)

episodic sudden onset vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss aural fullness (sensation of fullness of increased pressure in the ears)

A
no specific test will confirm diagnosis 1 air-bone conduction -unilateral sensorineual hearing loss -air and bone conduction are equal 2 speech audiometry -no abnormality detected on speech recognition threshold
