Mendelian extensions Flashcards
1
Q
Incomplete dominance
A
Heterozygous has intermediate phenotype
2
Q
Codominance
A
Heterozygous has both phenotypes
3
Q
Incomplete penetrance
A
Same genotype but not all affected
4
Q
Variable expressivity
A
Same genotype but different grades of affected
5
Q
Genetic/locus heterogeneity
A
Same phenotype but not same genotype
6
Q
Non-independent segregation
A
Some genes on the same chromosome might be linked. Measured in centiMorgan: 1cM = 1% recombinant progeny
7
Q
Multifactoral traits
A
Polygenic traits + environmental
8
Q
Quantitative traits
A
- Polygenic theory (Fisher, 1918): every quantitative trait is due to Mendelian traits with additive effects + environmental
- Liability theory: the probability of getting a disease is Gaussian, and if an individual in a specific population surpasses the fixed threshold they are sick. If they have other risk factors (sibs with sick people), their bell should be traslated.
