Sensory register
Has one store for each of our five senses.
Duration- Less than half a second
Capacity- 12 items (iconic store)
Short term memory (STM)
Capacity- 7±2
Duration- 30 seconds
Coded- acoustically
Long term memory store (LTM)

Coded- semantically
Episodic memory
A long term memory store for personal events.

Central executive
An attentional process that monitors incoming data. makes decisions and allocates slave systems to tasks.
Has limited processing capacity.
Phonological loop
Deals with auditory information i.e. coding is acoustic and preserves the order in which the information arrives.
- The phonological store: store the words you hear.
- The articulatory process: allows the maintenance rehearsal or words in a loop to keep. them working memory while they are needed.
Visuo-spatial sketchpad
Stores visual and/or spatial information when required.
