Memory Flashcards
Memory
The process of the brain storing and retrieving information over time
Attention
The cognitive process of selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things
Duration
The length of time that information can be kept/stored in memory
Encoding
The way information is changed so it can be stored in memory. Information enters the brain via the senses (e.g eyes and ears). It is stored in various forms e.g visually, acoustically or
semantically.
Capacity
This is the measure of how much can be held in memory. It is measured in terms of bits of information such as number of digits
Rehearsal
This is the process of repeating information in order to prevent decay or forgetting
