Memory Flashcards
What is the Modal Model of Memory (also called the three-stage model)?
Sensory Store (very brief) TO Short Term Memory (10-15 seconds without rehearsal) with ENCODING (rehersal), goes to Long Term memory
How long does something stay in short term memory?
10-15 seconds
What is a sensory memory?
To sustain sensations for identification
What is the capacity and duration of sensory memory?
D: very short, 1/2-3 secs
C: Very large (senic)
What is iconic memory?

What is echoic Memory?
Auditory
Haptic Memory?
Touch
What is gustic memory?
Taste
What is Olfactic memory?
Smell
What is chunking?
chunking is a process by which small individual pieces of a set of information are bound together to create a meaningful whole later on in memory. Ex. Breaking phone numbers into little groups.
What is imagery?
Making images with the two key words interacting.
Primary Effect?

Implicit Memory
Procedural Memory. Tying shoes, playing trumpet
Retrograde Amnesia?
Retrograde amnesia is a neurological condition characterized by the inability to recall events, information, or experiences that occurred before the onset of the amnesia.
Anterograde Amnesia?
What is anterograde amnesia? Anterograde amnesia is a type of memory loss that occurs when you can’t form new memories. In the most extreme cases, this means you permanently lose the ability to learn or retain any new information. On its own, this type of memory loss is rare.
