Q

What happens in the sensory register

A
  1. 5 main senses detected by sensory neuron and received by brain
2.sensory info from senses is recorded automatically, info passed on to STM by paying ATTENTION
  2. STM passes info to LTM through REHEARSAL- maintenance rehearsal or elaborative rehearsal
  3. Info is passed back from LTM with RETRIEVAL, and info can be lost via DISPLACEMENT(new info).

Q

Describe the sensory register

A
  • not under COGNITIVE CONTROL like STM or LTM
-all info found in stm/ ltm were initially gathered by sensory reg

Q

Sensory register (coding, cap, duration)

A

CODING-modality specific
CAPACITY- very large, unlimited?- contains all sense impressions for all senses in the moment, only what is paid attention to is passed to STM
DURATION- very low, low as 250 milliseconds( so much info held, cant be retained for long)
