membranes, lipids, proteins and carbohydrates Flashcards
what is the role of phosphoglycerate kinase in glycolysis?
production of ATP via substrate level phosphorylation
what is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic glycolysis?
in aerobic glycolysis, NAD is regenerated, allowing the process to continue. pyruvate is also oxidised further in the citric acid cycle and via OXPHOS
what are the 3 stages of beta oxidation?
activation of fatty acid
transport of fatty acyl CoA into the mitochondria
oxidation of fatty acyl CoA
what enzymes are used for INTESTINAL digestion of proteins and amino acids?
chymotrypsin, trypsin, and carboxypetidase
what are the two stages of amino acid degradation?
1-transfer of amino acid units to a-ketoglutarate aminotransferases
2-dehydrogenation to form ammonium ion glutarate dehydrogenases
