Q

explain mitochondria struc and func

A

Struct-The mitochondria are surrounded by two membranes with a fluid filled space between them, the matrix. The inner membrane is highly folded into cisternae.

Function- Where aerobic respiration occurs. Mitochondria is self-replicating and very abundant where activity is high.

Q

explain nucleus struc and func

A

Structure- The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear envelope, which contains pores. The nucleolus contains RNA. Chromatin is the genetic material, consisting of DNA wounding around histone proteins. When the cell is dividing chromatin is spread out or extended but when the cell is dividing, chromatin condenses and cols tightly into chromosomes. This makes up most of an organelle’s genome.

Function- The nuclear envelope separates the contents inside the nucleus from the rest of the cell. The nuclear envelopes pores allow large substances like RNA or mRNA to pass through which code for proteins (they can go to the ribosomes), The pores also allow some steroid hormones to enter the nucleus from the cytoplasm, also chromosomes contain the organism’s genes.

The nucleolus is where ribosomes are made.

Q

explain rer struc and func

A

Structure- The rough endoplasmic reticulum is a system of membranes containing cisternae and is coated in ribosomes.

Function- The RER is an intracellular transport system, the cisternae form channels to transport substances in and out of the cell. The RER also provides a large surface area for ribosomes.

Q

explain ser struc and func

A

Struc- A system of membranes containing cisternae and contain no ribosomes.

Func- The SER contains enzymes that catalase reactions involved with lipid metabolism like synthesis of cholesterol, lipids/phospholipids and steroid hormones. It is also involved with absorption, synthesis and transport of lipids

Q

explain golgi apparatus struc and func

A

Struct- A stack of membrane bound flattened sacs. Sensory vesicles bring materials to and from the Golgi apparatus.

Function- Proteins are modified at the Golgi apparatus, and proteins are packaged into vesicles.

Q

explain lysosomes function

A

Structure- Formed from the Golgi apparatus, contain a single membrane. They contain powerful hydrolytic enzymes and are abundant in phagocytes and ingest cells.

Function- Lysosomes separate power hydrolytic enzymes from the rest of the cell and engulf old organelles, foreign matter and digest them to be reused.

Q

explain Cilia and undulipodia struc and func

A

Struct and func- Surrounded by the cell surface membrane. Your epithelial cells lining in your airways contain many cilia that beat and move bands of mucus. Nearly all cells contain a cilium that contains receptors and allows cell to detect signals.

Q

vacuole

A

Struct -The vacuole is surrounded by the tonoplast and contains fluid.

Function- Only plats have perm vacuole. The fluid maintains cell stability and it helps support the plant.
