Triadic melodies
Triadic melodies use notes mainly from specific triads in a key signature.
Sequence
A sequence is a musical idea repeated at a higher or lower pitch.
Imitation
Imitation in music is where a melody is performed by one voice or instrument and then copied by a different voice or instrument immediately after.
Repeated notes
Repeated notes refer to the use of notes at the same pitch over and over again in a melody.
Step movement
Step movement is when the notes of a melody move up or down by a single note, like the steps of a staircase.
Leap movement
Leap movement is when the notes of a melody move up or down by more than a single note.
Sustained notes
Sustained notes (or drones) are notes that are held for a longer duration than others in a piece of music
Ties
Symbols called ties are used to show that a note should be sustained
