Meisos and reproduction Flashcards
Fallopian Tubes/oviduct
Where sperm and egg meet for fertilization
Ovary
- female gonads(sex organs)
- produces and releases eggs( gametes)
Vagina
- birth canal
- sperm gets deposited here
- baby exits here
Uterus
- where the baby develops
- site for implantation development
Vas deferns
- carries and moves mature gamete(sperm) to pathway
Urethra
- also for transportation
Penis
-deposits sperm into vagina
testes
- male gonads (sex organ)
- produces and secretes gamete (sperm)
what is the order
f, meisos, mitosis
- mitosis(1 division)
- meiosis (halves gamete)
- fertilization
Meiosis
Meiosis is the process by which sex cells develop.
- half the number of chromosomes
- 1 replication (1st division)
- 2 divisions
zygote
is a egg and sperm after fertilization
crossing over
when chromosomes overlap and switch
- nothing wrong happens
Fertilization
when egg and sperm come together to create a zygote
Spermetogenesis
starts with 46, replicates into two cells of 46 , then meiosis happens and becomes 4 sperm with 23 chromosomes in each. These 4 sperm are not identical
Oogensis
starts with 46 then replicates to two sex cells of 46, then meiosis happens and there is One egg of 23 chromosomes and 3 smaller polar bodies of 23 chromosomes. The polar bodies can not get used in fertilization
Internal Fertilization
- happens inside body
- usually only in land animals (terrestrial)
- few eggs
External Fertilization
- happens outside the body
- usually only in water animals (aquatic)
- many eggs
