Q

What is a part of meiosis II?

A
  • Prophase II
  • Metaphase II
  • Anaphase II
  • Telophase II
  • it is a similar process to meiosis I except the resulting number of cells is four and each have a haploid # of cells

Q

What is ploidy?

A
  • n = a set of chromosomes that includes exactly one homolog
  • names are given to multiples of n:
  • 1n = haploid
  • 2n = diploid
  • 3n = triploid, etc
  • in humans, somatic cells are diploid and gametes are haploid

Q

What is non-disjunction?

A
  • when homologous chromosomes are pulled apart and something goes wrong which results in both homologs ending up in one cell
  • this results in the wrong number of chromosomes in one daughter cells which can affect the offspring
