Meiosis Flashcards
Interphase
DNA replicates
Prophase 1
homologous chromosomes condense and become visible
-crossing over occurs
-nuclear membrane breaks down
-centrioles migrate to oposite poles and produce spindal
Metaphase 1
- spindle attaches to centromere
- homologous pairs line up along the equator
-independent assortment occurs
Anaphase 1
-spindle fibres contract
homologous pairs seperate and move towards opposite poles ( now called sister chromatids ( technically just chromosomes))
-independent assortment occurs
Telophase 1
- chromosomes gather at poles
-nuclear membrane reforms-haploid
-cytokinesis0 division of cytoplasm
End result of Phase 1
-2 unidentical haploid daughter cells
Prophase 2
-nuclear membrane disintegrates
-centrioles migrate to opposite poles and produce spindle
Metaphase 2
-spindle attaches to centromere
-chromosomes line up in single file along the equator
-independent assortment occurs
Anaphase 2
spindle fibres contract
-chromosomes are pulled apart ( now sister chromatids)
-move towards opposite poles
-independent assortment occurs
Telophase 2
-chromosomes gather at poles
-nuclear membrane reforms
-divison of cytoplasm
End result Phase 2
4 unidentical haploid daughter cells
