Meiosis Flashcards
1
Q
What types of cells are formed by meiosis?
A
Gametes
2
Q
What are alleles?
A
Different versions of the same gene.
3
Q
What happens in prophase 1?
A
Same as mitosis, but homologous chromosomes pair up to form bivalents. Crossing over occurs.
4
Q
What occurs during M1?
A
SAM. Independent assortment occurs. Position of each bivalent is independent of all others, either cell can inherit either paternal or maternal chromosome.
5
Q
What occurs during A1?
A
Homologous chromosomes pulled by spindle fibres to the poles.
6
Q
What occurs during T1?
A
- Nuclear envelope reforms.
- Chromosomes uncoil.
- Cells undergo cytokinesis.
7
Q
What occurs during P2?
A
SAM.
8
Q
What occurs during M2?
A
More independent assortment.
SAM.
9
Q
What occurs during A2?
A
SAM.
10
Q
What occurs during T2?
A
4 haploid daughter cells formed after cytokinesis.
