Q

Chiasmata

A

the PLACE or PART where the 2 of the 4 chromatids (1 from each homologue) OVERLAP to form an X-shaped
pattern.

for example if I am a chromosome or bivalent and haliyat is a another chromosome or bivalent and we put our pinkys together to cross-over genetic material out CHiASMATA would be our pinkys becase thats were we touch.

Q

crossing-over

A

the exchange of material between non-sister chromatids
resulting in the rearrangement of genetic material in homologous
chromosomes
can result in changes in specific traits

( exchange of genetic material occur between the strands.)

Q

allels

A

An allele is a variant form of a gene. Some genes have a variety of different forms, which are located at the same position, or genetic locus, on a chromosome.

same gene, different form-example: gene for blue eyes is an allele of the gene for brown eyes
(both genes for eye colour but for different colours making them alleles)

Q

phases of Meiosis

A

interphase, prophase1, metaphase1, anaphase1, telophase1,
(same here as it is for mitosis except for in prophase1 where crossing over occurs)

prophase2, metaphase2, anaphase2, telophase2

(prophase 2 nothing rlly occurs-says msr Johnson)
