Meiosis Flashcards
How is a diploid cell different from a haploid cell?
Diploid cells are two full sets of chromosomes while haploid cells are one full set of chromosomes.
What makes metaphase I of meiosis different from metaphase of mitosis?
in meiosis I, pairs of homologous chromosomes (i.e., tetrads) align at the equator of the cell whereas in mitosis individual chromosomes align at the equator.
During anaphase I of meiosis, what is being pulled apart?
The homologous chromosomes
are pulled apart and move towards opposite ends of the cell
During anaphase II of meiosis, what is being pulled apart?
the chromosome pairs
When a cell undergoes meiosis, how many cell divisions take place?
When a cell undergoes mitosis, how many cell divisions take place?
One cell division
a single cell divides into two cells mitosis
When a cell undergoes mitosis, how many daughter cells are produced?
When a cell undergoes meiosis, how many daughter cells are produced?
two identical daughter
four sex cells.
