Medulla Flashcards

1
Q

pyramids

A
  • two long, finger-like structures that lie along the midline of the ventral surface of the caudal brainstem.
  • -formed by descending axons of corticospinal motor neuron.
  • crossing fibers visible at the caudal end of the pyramids. [corticospinal motor axons cross over to the contralateral side of the spinal cord]

Q

importance of the Foramena of Luschka and the Foramen of Magendie

A

These foramena are the points of exit for CSF (produced by choroid plexus within the ventricular system of the brain) to the subarachnoid space.

Q

Foramena of Luschka vs the Foramen of Magendie

A

Foramena of Luschka are the lateral openings of the ventricular system.

Foramen of Magendie is located at the mid-saggital juncture of the cerebellum and the medulla. There is a small opening into the 4th ventricle.

(Luschka is Lateral; Magendie is Medial)
