what are the symptoms for lateral medullary syndrome?
contralateral loss of pain and temp for the body, ipsilateral loss of pain and temp on face. vertigo, difficulty swallowing
with a LMN lesion of CN XII what direction would the tongue go with respect to the lesion?
ipsilateral, to the side of the lesion
with an UMN lesion of CN XII what direction would the tongue go with respect to the lesion?
contralateral, opposite the way of the lesion
what differences would you notice in the tongue with an UMN lesion vs a LMN lesion?
the LMN lesion will show signs of atrophy of the tongue
what must happen for alternating hemiplegia occur?
a lesion must occur where a motor cranial nerve exits along the midline adjacent to the descending corticospinal fibers.
