Medulla Flashcards
Preolivary sulcus
Separates the pyramid from the olive and contains the hypoglossal XII CN
Pyramid
Pair of elongated elevations on either side of the anterior median. Bound laterally by the olive.
Olive
Bound medically by the preolivary sulcus and laterally by the postolivary sulcus
Anterior median sulcus
Separates the two pyramids and terminates in the inferiorly in the pyramidal decussation
Cranial nerve XII hypoglossal
In preolivary sulcus between pyramid and olive on the medulla
Cranial nerve XI Accessory
Inline with the vagus CN but inferior to the postolivary sulcus. Most inferior CN
Cranial nerve X Vagus
Superior to the accessory CN. Found in postolivary sulcus
Cranial nerve IX Glossopharyngeal
Superior to CN X Vagus. Most superior CN in the postolivary sulcus
Posterior median sulcus
Found on he posterior side of the medulla. Divides the two lateral halfs
Gracile tubercle
Most medial tubercle next to the posterior median sulcus on the medulla. Bound laterosuperially by the cuneate tubercle
Cuneate tubercle
Lateral to the gracile tubercle on the posterior medulla
Floor of the 4th ventricle
Caudal tail of the fourth ventricle is the obex found directly superior to the posterior median sulcus
Inferior cerebellar peduncle
Connects the medulla to the cerebellum
