Medulla Flashcards
Pyramidal Tract function
mediates voluntary control of movement of the limbs and motor functions of CN 9,10,12
Pyramidal tract injury
upper motor neuron paralysis affecting the limbs and disruption of motor functions associated with CN 9,10,12
Medial lemniscus function
transmits conscious proprioception, pain, and temp from the body and limbs to the thalamus (and then to the cortex) via the DCP pathway
medial longitudinal fasciculus (MLF)
signals from descending component result in changes in position of the head in response to vestibular input; likewise, ascending component regulates position of eyes in response to vestibular input
Lateral spino thalamic tract function
mediates pain and temp sensation from the body
inferior olivary nucleus
a key relay nucleus mediating info from red nucleus and spinal cord to cerebellum
nucleus ambiguus
origin of motor outputs from CN9 and 10 to larynx and phaynx
Caudal medulla (fused baby feet)
most similar to spinal cord, site of decussation of pyramids,
Rostral medulla (open)
inferior cerebellar peduncle (used in DCST) MLF located here (coordinates nuclei of 3, 4, )
