Meds Flashcards
Parenteral heparin actions? Used for stroke, PE, DVT, cardiac cath, MI, DIC
Heparin: modify or inhibit clotting or cellular properties to prevent clot formation
Enoxaparin: low molecular weight heparin. Prevents conversion of prothrombin to thrombin by inactivating coagulation enzymes
Oral anticoagulants? Actions?
Warfarin: prevents synthesis of coagulation factors VII, IX, X, and prothrombin
Dabigatran: inhibits thrombin formation
Rivaroxaban: inhibits factor Xa
Uses for oral warfarin?
Venous thrombosis, prevention of thrombus formation for clients with a fib or prosthetic heart valves. Prevention of recurrent MI, TIAs
Med that reduces the risk of stroke/embolism in clients with nonvalvular afib
Med that does that but also prevention of DVT and PE in pts undergoing total knee or hip arthroplasty
