Meds Flashcards
Asthma- Reliever Medication
relax bronchial muscles-
Brochodilators rescue inhaler
Beta2 agonist
ProAir, Proventil(albuterol sulfate)
may cause tachycardia, anxiety
Anticholinergics: inhibits PNS, releases norepinephrine
Atrovent(ipratropium bromide)
Asthma- Control medications
Long acting Beta2 agonist- slow onset long duration
Serevent(salmeterol xinafoate)
Anti-inflammatories- decrease inflammation will not cause broncho dilation
Leukotriene modifier: prevent inflammation by bloking leukotriene receptor
Singulair(montelikast sodium)
Corticosteroids- use inhaled for long term tx
Advair, Flovent(fluticasone furoate)
Mast cell stabilizer: prevents relase of inflammatory mediators
Tilade(nedocromil) Intal(crololyn) aka cromones
Xanthines- monitor blood levels, used later in astmas attack to decrease bronchoconstriction (Theophylline) Theolair
Anti-IgE- if asthma attack does not respond to other tx use this! Xolair(omalizumab) SQ
Inhaler MDI
Metered dose inhaler shake before use slow inspiration spacer can be used no counter device clean inhaler
short acting
Proventil
Inhaler DPI
Dry powder inhaler no shaking take rapidly to deliver deep no spacer counter used do not get wet
Albuterol
COPD
Beta adrenergic Cholinergic antagonist Methylxathines Corticosteroids Cromones Mucolytics*** Antibiotics***
COPD pt energy conservation
Pace themselves ADLs
Gradually increase activity
Tri-pod position
O2 with ADLs
COPD minimize anxiety
antianxiety- Lorazapam
Cystic Fibrosis
Brochodilators Anti-inflammatory Mucolytic agents Antibiotics- prophylactic Denufosol
PAH
digoxin
diuretics
Calcium channel blockers(procardia, cardizem)
Endothelin receptor antagonist- relax blood vessels
IV prostacyclin- dec pul pressure, inc blood flow to lung Flolan IV or SQ continuous infusion
Coumadin therapy
Lasic and Demadex use K too
Sarcoidosis
Corticosteroids!
corticosteroids will depress immune system for 6-12 months
Pulmonary Fibrosis
corticosteroids
immunosuppressants
Radiation
use cholinergic drugs to increase saliva production
Chemotherapy
use antiemetics
PE
anticoagulants(Heprin IV followed by coumadin PO)
Fibrinolytics
Heparin monitor APTT
Coumadin monitor INR
