What is managed retreat?
Allows an area to become flooded that was not previously exposed to flooding by removing coastal protection.
Where does managed retreat normally occur?
In low lying estuarine areas where land has been reclaimed by the sea in the past.

Become a massive nature reserve and already occupied by wildlife
Proetcting households much better as sea wall is closer to them
Also protecting Southampton and Portsmouth
183 hectares will rapidly become a saltwater marsh
Encouraged more bird watchers to come and visit
Locals have got a one-in-one-thousand-year protection - one of the best in the country
