Many people were religious and followed the Catholic church and so people believed illness and disease were sent by God as a punishment for their sins
why else did people think disease was sent by God
they thought it was a test sent by God or the Devil to test their faith

he would look at their date of birth and when they became ill and refer to a star chart to figure out the type of disease they had
