What periods were in the Medieval period
The Kamakura, muromachi, Azuchi Momoyama, and the edo
When did the Kamakura period begin
1185 CE - 1333 CE
Why is the Kamakura period significant?
It marked the transition into a land-based economy . During this period feudal lords named shoguns would report to the Emporer and would be in charge of the military but as Japan b became a feudal society real power was in the hands of the shoguns.
What follows the Kamakura period
Muromachi period (1333 - 1568)
Why is the Muromachi period important
This period saw Japan undergo significant cultural growth under the religion Zen Buddhism. Along with this Japanese culture, specifically, architecture was finally becoming its own with no influence from the outside world. Japan was still a Shogunate.
What happened in the Azuki-Momoyama period
This was an age of great political unification of daimyo Oda Nobunaga and his successor Toyotomi Hideyoshi who brought all the provinces under the control of a central government. This period is most known for end of four decades of war across all of Japan

The Edo period (1603 - 1868)
What occured in the Edo period
The capital city was moved to Edo, now known as Tokyo. It is known for its economic growth, peace, love of arts and culture, a stable population a strict social order
What was the social order of Japan in the Edo period
It was separated into four sections shi-no-ko-sho. The Emporer did not fall into any category as they were far superior. In the shi section were the shogun, daiymo, samurai, and Ronon. Although a shogun and daiymo possess much more power than a samurai or Ronon they were still in the same category. The no section included peasants who made up 90% of the population. Finally, artisans were in the ko part and merchants are in the sho section.
