What was Feudalism?
An agreement between the noble ad peasant that stated if peasants work, they are guaranteed protection
Social + Political make up of Europe during the middle ages
What was Manorialism?
The self sufficient organization of the manors
ex: if you needed wool, they had sheep to skin
What was their social structure at the time?

SERFS (nobles’ worker) AND PEASANTS
How did the church power grow?
Having no strong government caused the feudal system to provide stability. It helped unify Europe, gave a sense of security and the church also provided stability for all classes
When were the Middle Ages of Europe?
500 - 1400
What was the Great Schism not specifically?
A split from disagreements, but it divided Christianity
What WAS the Great Schism???
- West and East battled over the use of icons
- Icons (religious statues, paintings used at prayer)
- Some thought they were false worshiping
- By 730 the Byzantine emperor banned icons
What were the Crusades?
Muslims had control over the holy land Jerusalem, to get it back, protect Constantinople, and stop Muslim attacks was to battle. The pope also wanted more power
Because of Feudalism was trade present?
No, because the manors had everything everyone needed and no one needed to trade
How did the power of the church change after the Great Schism?
It’s power and the pope’s decreased, & divided the church
What were the effects of the Crusades?
Trade increased, Plague, Population DROP, monarch’s power increased b/c more wealth goes to them

How did Manorialism start?
outside invasions were scaring people so they all left and sought protection, most lords/nobles agreed

- workers demand, get higher pay
- Jews prosecuted
- Inflation ($ worth less than used to be)
