what was the Hippocratic oath?
A promise that was created to give people confidence in doctors.
what does the Hippocratic Oath state?
Doctors aren’t magicians and that patients are more important than money.
who was Galen?
A surgeon who practiced his studies on a pig.
what did Galen do to further his studies?
He believed that physicians should find out as much as possible about anatomy. However as it was not possible to dissecting human bodies so he then decided to dissect apes and pigs because they were more like humans.
what was the idea of opposites?
The idea that to cure your illness you must use an opposite cure. E.g eat Hot peppers to cure a cold or eat cucumber to treat a fever.
what methods of treatment did Galen suggest?
Healthy diet and exercise / theory of opposites
what natural methods of treatment were there in medieval medicine?
Apothecaries - ointments / herbal remedies / Blood letting , purging and emptying bowels.
