How and when is suboxone prescribed?
—Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) is used for opioid use disorder and can be used in outpatients.
—Patient begins with buprenorphine (Subutex) only for two days and then is switched to Suboxone.
——Subutex helps with initial withdrawal (begins as early as 4 hours)
——Naloxone is started later as it would cause severe withdrawals otherwise
—-If a patient takes opioids while on suboxone they will experience immediate withdrawal.
What medications are used for dementia?

Memantine (severe dementia)
What are cholinesterase inhibitors?
Cholinesterase inhibitors enhance memory and learning by inhibiting breakdown of acetylcholine. They also reduce anxiety/depression/hallucinations/agitation.
Donepezil

Galantamine
What is memantine?
Memantine is a glutamate antagonist. It reduces excitatory glutamate and stabilizes neurological processes.
It slows the progression of AD.
It is used in severe dementia.
What is naltrexone used for?
Opioid antagonist
Reverses the effects of opioids and alcohol
What drugs are administered prior to an ECT procedure?
Anticholinergics — to reduce oral and respiratory secretions
What is physostigmine used for?
It is a cholinesterase inhibitor used in anticholinergic activity.
What is bromocriptine used for?
Bromocriptine is used for neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
It is a dopamine agonist and increases availability of dopamine.
What are the short-acting, intermediate-acting, and long-acting benzodiazepines?
Short-acting: triazolam, midazolam
Intermediate-acting: lorazepam, alprazolam, oxazepam, temazepam
Long-acting: clonazepam, diazepam
Which benzodiazepines have the fastest onset of action?
