What are characteristics of intradermal injections?
A
- Just below epidermis
- Not near any major muscles or blood vessels
- Limited to area of injection site
- Used for anaesthetic and allergy testing

- Blue needle
- 10-15 degree angle

- Slow absorption medications e.g anti-coagulants and insulin
- Administered just below the subcutaneous layer

- 45-90 degree angle
- Lift skin to raise adipose tissue layer

When is Z track method use?
A
When medication can stain or cause skin irritation

What is the technique for the Z track method?
A
- Skin is pulled to one side, moving subcutaneous tissue 1-2 cms
- Needle inserted at 90 degree angle
- After aspiration medication is inserted into the muscle, wait ten seconds to allow medication to disperse
- After 10 second wait, needle is released at skin is withdrawn
