Adverse rxn: depression euphoria, ICP, personality changes, hypertension, hyperglycemia, fluid retention hypokalemia, weight gain, osteoporosis, secular necrosis of joints, effects with NSAIDS
Dexamesthasone
Adrenal insufficiency: hypotension, weight loss, weaknees, N/V, anorexia, lethargy, confusion, restlessness
Assess for ulcerative colitis, diarrhea, fever, Leukocytosis
Adminster in am
Entourage patient in diet high protein, calcium, and potassium. Low sodium, carbs
Dexamesthasone
Antispasticity agent,
Mild sclerosis, trigeminal neuralgia
Inhibits reflexes at the spinal level, bowel and bladder function may also be improved
Contraindicated: may decrease seizure threshold
Discontinue over 2 wks or more
Baclofen
Antiparkinson agent
Dopamine- relief of tremor and rigidity
Contraindicated in angle closure glaucoma, malignant melanoma, products with tartrazine, phenylalanine or aspartame
Adverse rxs: anxiety, psych problems, gambling & sexual urges, blurred mydriasis, N/V, darkening of urine/sweat, hemolytic anemia, leukopenia
Carbidopa- levodopa
is used to treat muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis and to combat the effects of curariform drug toxicity Contraindicated: mechanical intestinal or urinary obstruction and should be used with caution in patients with bronchial asthma Sweating Diarrhea Nausea Vomiting Abdominal cramps Increased salivation Tearing Increased bronchial secretions Constricted pupils Facial flushing due to vasodilation Erectile dysfunction Monitor vital signs frequently, especially respiratory rate.
