What medication is used to treat peripheral neuropathy? What are some side effects that a PT should be aware of?
Pregabalin (Lyrica)
Side effects include CHF, lymphedema (check to see if socks leave indent), increased difficulty walking longer distances
What are common muscle relaxants?
Flexeril, Norflex, Soma, Robexin
What kind of drug is Vasopressin?
ANTI-Diuretic; causes the patient to retain water and constrict blood vessels
Which diuretic does NOT cause hypokalemia?
Aldactone
Which is the only PNS acting skeletal muscle relaxant?
Dantrolene/Dantrium
Which drugs are CNS and PNS acting skeletal muscle relaxants?
Diazepam/valium, Baclofen/Lioresol, Flexeril
What kind of drug are Barbiturates?
Muscle relaxant; it depresses the CNS and induces sedation
What side effects of BZD - Benzodiazepines do you need to be aware of?
Burning/tingling in UEs and LEs; diarrhea, gas, constipation, appetite changes
What drugs would cause immediate attention if the patient experiences Hyperthermia and muscle rigidity?
Anti-psychotics
What kind of drugs are Cyclobenzaprine and Clozapine?
Anti-depressants
Difference in GI side effects with Opiates vs Chemotherapy?
Opiates = constipation
Chemotherapy = diarrhea
What kind of drug is Warfarin (Coumadin)? What are we concerned about?
Anti-coagulation
Increased risk of hemorrhage
What kind of drug is Low MWT Heparin?
Causes anti-clotting
Given for DVT
Given after TKR and THR

Anti-platelet function used to prevent CAD, MI
