Medications Flashcards
Aspirin (ASA)
Antiplatelet
Plavix (clopidogrel)
Antiplatelet
Anticoagulant
Heparin, Warfarin (Coumadin)
Statins
Lipitor, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors- inhibits hepatic cholesterol synthesis
PTT
Partial Thromboplastin Time (measures effectiveness of Heparin)
INR
Measures effectiveness of oral Warfarin (international normalized ratio)
Goal: usually 2-3
Direct Oral Anticoagulation (DOAC)
Anticoagulation
Nitrates
Relax vascular smooth muscle via liberation of nitric oxide
Beta blockers
Reduces HR, slows conduction, reduces contractility, lowers BP
ACE Inhibitors
Decrease afterload, causes diuresis
Diuretics
Diuresis, preload reduction, controls pulmonary and peripheral congestion
Calcium Channel Blockers
Vasodilation (relaxes smooth muscle contraction) , decreases HR
Blocks calcium entry into cells
