routine: continued until provider says so
standing: protocol based
single: one time
stat: one time and immediately
PRN: specific time, dose, and frequency as needed
now: one time, within 90 minutes
genertic vs trade/brand
generic: given by united states adopted names, usually lowercase
trade: given by manufacture, usually capitalized
routes of adminstration
oral/enteral (po): by mouth, GI tract
topical: absorbed through skin
inhalation through respiratory
parental: not GI tract, circulatory
onset, peak, duration
onset: time it takes for drug to cause therapeutic effect
peak: time it takes for drug to take full therapeutic effect
duration: the time a drug concentration is sufficient enough to cause therapeutic effect
absoprtion, distribution, metabolism, exrcretion
absorption: from site of administration to bloodstream
distributions: from bloodstream to site of action
metabolism: how the body uses the drug and the byproduct
excretion: elimination of medication
via urine, feces, breathing
