Medicare - General Enrollment Principals Flashcards
1
Q
What the general principles/goals for Medicare enrollment?
A
- Avoid gaps of any kind in coverage by having all necessary parts start on the same effective date - Typically this includes Part A, Part B, Part D and Medigap, or Advantage (
Exception - If you will be working past age 65, and have creditable coverage for Part B services and drugs, then it may make sense to take Part A at 65, and delay Part B, Part D and Medigap or Advantage until after age 65
- Avoid late enrollment penalties for Parts B & D
- Apply for Original Medicare (A&B) earlier in your enrollment period (IEP or SEP) so that can get your Medicare card and then start enrollment in Part D and Medigap, or Advantage.
