Somnolent
The feeling of being sleepy of drowsy
Stupor
A state of near-unconsciousness
Coma
A deep state of unconsciousness where a person is unable to be awakened or respond to their environment
Temporal (temp. route)
Your temporal artery is a blood vessel that runs across the middle of your forehead
Temperature
You can measure temperature through the forehead using the dorsal side of your palm
Axillary (temp. route)
Your axillary temperature is taken from the armpit
Typically used to take temperature for children or babies because they are more sensitive to temperature changes
Tympanic (temp. route)
Tympanic temperature is taken in the ear canal
Oral (temp. route)
Oral temperature is taken by placing the thermometer under the tongue
Rectal (temp. route)
A rectal temperature is taken from the anus
Hyperthermia
Abnormally high body temperature caused by a failure of the heat-regulating mechanisms of the body to deal with the heat coming from the environment.
Hypothermia
A medical emergency that occurs when your body temperature drops too low, usually due to exposure to cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time
Bradycardia
A condition where the heart beats too slowly, usually less than 60 beats per minute
Tachycardia
A heart rate that’s faster than normal, usually more than 100 beats per minute while resting
Apnea
This is when you stop breathing while asleep or have almost no airflow
Bradypnea
abnormally slow breathing rate
Tachypnea
Abnormally rapid breathing
