Hardening of an artery specifically caused by an atheromatous plaque.

What is the characterization of atherosclerosis?
A
Accumulation of cholesterol, infiltration of macrophages into the vessel wall, proliferation of smooth muscle cells, accumulation of connective tissue components, and formation of thrombus.

A
increase in volume of a tissue or organ produced entirely by enlargement of existing cells.
