axilla
referring to armpit
clavicle
referring to collar bone
eponym
terms incorporating the names of people
supine
laying flat on your back, face is upward
prone
face is downward
median plane
vertical plan, dividing body into equal right and left halves
sagittal plane
vertical plane passing through the body parallel to the median plane.
coronal plane
vertical planes that divide body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) portions.
horizontal (transverse) plane
divides body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts.
axial plane
radiologists refer to horizontal planes as this.
longitudinal planes
run lengthwise in long axis of body or any part
oblique
slices of the body, any part of the body not associated with anatomical planes.
superficial
on the surface or shallow
intermediate
coming between two things
deep
further into the skin (body)
medial
closer to the midline
lateral
away from the midline
external
outer
internal
inner
posterior
back of the surface
anterior
front of the surface
dorsal
back of the surface (used to describe back of quadrupeds)
ventral
same as anterior. (front of the surface)

plantarflexion
turns the foot or toes towards the plantar surface
extension
straightening or increasing angle between bones or parts of the body

hyperextension
extension of the limb or part beyond the normal limit
adduction
moving toward median plane in coronal plane
