Medical Imaging Flashcards
Radiography
Takes radiograph (2-dimensional image aka. X-Ray)
Provide sufficient information for diagnosis
Useful for examining dense and hollow structures as well as soft tissues such as breasts at low dose (mammography or DEXA scan)
Or determining bone density (bone densitometry)
Need to use contrast dye to make hollow or fluid-filled structures visible (those structures containing contrast media appear white)
Medium given orally, rectally or injection depending on structure to be imaged
Angiography
Contrast x-Ray of blood vessels called angiogram
Shows if there is blockage in artery
Mammography
Form of radiography done on breast tissue using low-dose x-Ray imaging
Also called DEXA scan
Bone Densitometry
Form of radiography used to determine bone density
Intravenous Urography
Contrast x-Ray used to image the urinary system
Barium Contrast X-Ray
Contrast x-Ray used to image the GI tract
