Your patient struggles with alcohol dependence and needs a liver transplant. Would you add this patient to the transplant waiting list?

Answer 1

-depends on several factors

-age and how likely they are to survive the surgery

-any pre-existing conditions that may make the surgery dangerous for them

-how likely they are to relapse: if there is clear evidence to suggest that a liver transplant would not benefit them in the long-term, as they feel that they would not be able to make the necessary lifestyle changes, then I would consider not adding them to the list
