Medical Equipment Flashcards
Electroencephalography (EEG)
Recording of electrical activity of the brain
Electromyography (EMG)
Recording of electrical activity of a selected muscle or muscle groups
Fluoroscopy
Designed to show motion in joints through X-ray imaging
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Utilizes magnetic fields to produce an image of bone and soft tissue structures such as muscles, menisci, ligaments, tumors, and internal organs
Myelography
Invasive test that combines fluoroscopy and radiography to evaluate the spinal subarachnoid space
Venography
A radiograph that visualizes injected radiopaque dye in a vein. Identify tumors or blockages in veins
X-Ray
Radiographer photo commonly used to assist with the diagnosis of musculoskeletal problems such as fractures, dislocations, and bone loss. X-ray produces planar images often requiring images to be taken in multiple planes
Electrocardiography (EKG or ECG)
Recording of electrical activity of the heart
Computer tomography - CT scan
Produces cross sectional images based on X-ray attenuation
Bone scan
Invasive, utilizing isotopes to identify stress fractures, infection, tumors. Can identify 4-7% bone loss
Anthrography
Invasive utilizing a contrast medium to provide visualization of joint structures through radiographs. Commonly don’t at peripheral joints- hip, knees, ankles, elbow, and wrists
