What are the 8 drugs that should be found in a ME drugs kit?
- Adrenaline.
- Aspirin 300mg
- Glucagon injection.
- Glucose
- GTN
- Midazolam
- Oxygen
- Salbutamol inhaler (100 micrograms)
3 presentations of adrenaline
- Ampoules
- Pre-filled syringe
- Auto-injector device
When would aspirin be used?
Myocardial Infarction
Dose of aspirin:
300 mg by getting the patient to chew it in their mouth.
When is glucagon administered?
For UNCONSCIOUS hypoglycaemia.
Dose for adults and children of GLUCAGON
Adults - 1 ml (full syringe)
Children - 0.5 ml (half syringe)
How to prepare glucagon:
- Get rid of the orange lid.
- Inject liquid into powder.
- Shake with the needle still in.
- Draw up liquid.
When would glucose be used?
For hypoglycaemia when the patient is CONSCIOUS, CO-OPERATIVE and has an INTACT GAG REFLEX
How much glucose should be administered?
10-20g, rub it in.
How much GTN spray should be administered?
400 micrograms
When does GTN reach peak concentration?
4 mins
Why would a patient complain of a headache following GTN administration?
Due to it causing vasodilation.
Doses of midazolam to be administered:
Child 1-5: 5mg
Ages 5-10: 7.5mg
Over 10: 10mg
