What happens in asthma?
A
Chronic inflammation of the airway making it narrow and difficult to breathe.

Symptoms of an acute asthma attack?
A
- coughing
- dyspnoea, using accessory muscles.
- chest tightness
- wheezing on expiration

Management of an asthma attack.
A
- Help them take their reliever through a spacer.
- Sit them upright and take slow breaths.
- Reassess
- Continue 2 puffs every 2 minutes for up to 10 mins.
- No improvement so call 999.

If the patient presents with more than 2 inhalers, what might this be indicative of?
A
Asthma which isn’t very well controlled.

Help deliver medicine to the lungs and make the inhaler easier to use.
